Explore the beauatiful region of Central Bosnia in a full-day tour from Sarajevo.: Travnik Town, Jajce Waterfalls and Pliva Lakes and Watermills.
Travnik and Jajce Waterfall Tour is a full-day tour from Sarajevo to beautiful region of central Bosnia. We will explore the most significant pearls of this region – vizier city of Travnik and former capital of Bosnian Kingdom – Jajce. Besides the very important historical and cultural monuments we will see in these cities, you will enjoy beautiful scenarios and stunning nature, including impressive Jajce Waterfall.
After around an hour and a half of driving from Sarajevo we arrive at Travnik. Travnik is a charming, small town located in the valley of river Lasva and surrounded by mountains Vlasic and Vilenica. It is known for being a vizier city in the time of the Ottoman Empier in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Travnik we will see the famous medieval-Ottoman Travnik Fortress. Besides exploring museum complex inside the fortress, you will enjoy the most beuatiful views of Travnik and surrounding mountains.
An iconic place of Travnik where is Blue Water – the spring of stream Blue Water where you can enjoy traditional Bosnian Coffee.
Later on, we will explore the Old Town of Travnik, famous Sarena (Colorful) Mosque, known for its beautiful ornamentation and for being the only mosque with a bazaar inside of it, in entire country. We will also see old cemetery of Ottoman viziers and a famous Yugoslavian-time train – CIRO – with a steam locomotive that has been running for years via narrow-gauge railway and brings a lot of memories of those times.
Our next destination, Jajce, is located around an hour and a half from Travnik.
Jajce is known as one of the most beautiful cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially for its amazing 22-meter high Waterfall located in the very center of the city. From the best view spot you will enjoy the scenery of waterfall and the Old Town of Jajce. In summer time, if you are an adventurous soul, you can try Zip-line ride over the waterfall – it is definitely and unforgettable experience.
Later on, we will continue exploring the Old Town of Jajce – known for being the capital of Bosnian Kingdom in 15th century. Climbing narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Town, we will arrive to the medieval catacombs of Jajce which were used as an underground church (optional entrance) and are one the most popular destinations in Jajce. Also, you will discover medieval Church of Mary and the Tower of St. Luka.
Now, it is time to continue exploring the beautiful nature of Jajce. Pliva Lakes (Small Pliva Lake and Big Pliva Lake), located only a few kilometres from Jajce, are natural lakes where you can enjoy kayaking, swimming in summer time, coffee on some of the nearby restaurants or just a short walk and photo-shooting, depending on your preferences.
Between the two Pliva Lakes are located 500 years old – wooden Pliva Watermills used for wheat graineing. At the moment, out of 20 existing watermills, one is still being used for flower making.
After a full-day tour of exploring some of the most important cultural and historic monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as some of the most stunning art pieces of nature, we will be on our way back to Sarajevo.
